Bellicose

Picture
Better known as "Bella."
Breed: BC/ Aussie mix ?
DOB: October 2007 ?
Handlers: Ed Miller & Elaine Vigneault

Bella had been abandoned and was living on a Las Vegas construction site for months when Ed and Elaine found her. They took her in. When it became apparent that they could not keep up with her high energy level on their own, they found Atomic Dogs.

Bella is very playful. She loves balls, tugs, Frisbees, and other toys. Bella "talks" all the time, barking and whining to express herself. She often has a goofy expression on her face to go along with her silly vocalizations.

Jack... also known as Little jack or L.J.

Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
D.O.B: May 23, 2006
Location of Birth: Missouri
Handlers: Leo & Wendy Alexandre

Jack is a ball crazy dog. We began training him with the team at 6 months with a dedication that he would be competition ready for Wags for Wishes 2007. That happened as Jack received his 1st title of Top Flight I on July 7th. Jack was the teams height and start dog, and was an instrumental part of the teams 2nd place winning at Wags. He is dedicated to the ball and making his handlers happy. His level of energy is very intense as he never tires out and adapts to changes quickly. We can always rely on Jack to be a consistent member of the flyball team.

  • NAFA Flyball Dog Champion
  • Best Singles Time: 4.746 w/ an unofficial time of 4.187

Kimber

Picture
Breed: Queensland Red Heeler/ Jack Russell Terrier Mix
D.O.B: October 28th, 2005
Handlers: Miles & Trish Gagnon

Kimber Lou was a blessing in disguise when she came into Boulder Animal Hospital at 3 days old for her first check up with the rest of her litter. It wasn't until 6 weeks later, when she came in for her first round of vaccines that we fell in love with one of "the ugliest puppies in the world." Thank heavens she grew into her spots! Little did we know, she would also grow into her name. Kimber is named after a handgun manufacturer, and she has turned into quite the little pistol.

Being a Queensland Red Heeler crossed with a Jack Russel Terrier, Kimber was in serious need of a job to burn off some of her energy. Las Vegas has a severe lack of cattle for her to heard, so we began the search for another outlet, looking into agility at first. Then we met Eric Besserud (CJ's dad) and he turned us on to flyball, and it has been a perfect fit.

Kimber is  a steady competitor for the team, and loves letting her boy handle her too. Aside from flyball, Kimber enjoys chewing her bone, guarding the house, and playing with her boy.

Titles:
  • U-fli Top Flight Executive- Level I
  • Nafa Flyball Dog Excellent 04/12/2008

O.D.

Picture
Breed:Border Collie/Cattle Dog.
DOB: June 22, 2007
Handler: Malcom King

O.D. is a true Las Vegas native. She was exactly 8 weeks old when she came to her new forever home from the back seat of a pickup truck at the Silverton Hotel parking lot. O.D. is not named for Garfield’s sidekick, but was originally the “Other Dog”. However, she’s now the “Only Dog”… so her name is still accurate. Her veterinarian laughed when he saw her breed, which is a Border Collie & Blue Heeler mix.  “She’s going to need to expend a lot of energy”, he said. So he suggested Flyball.  O.D. started attending Atomic tournaments immediately, and the rest is history. O.D. loves to compete, and is a reliable and rock-solid competitor. She’s still in the process of training her handler, though!

Pacho

Picture
Breed: Spanish Water Dog
Handler: Lynn Ward

It’s not a Poodle, it’s not a labradoodle, it’s not Bo Obama, it’s PACHO the Spanish Water Dog!

Gazpacho “Pawcho” was brought back as carry-on luggage from Southern Spain in July of 2006. We became involved in flyball after meeting the coach in the campground bathrooms in Bonita, CA while at Wags for Wishes. He is a true “Iron Dog” competing in flyball, dock diving, agility and disc dog. True to his breed he also loves to herd and be herded by his Sheltie “sister" Canela. His favorite part of practice is, of course, hanging out in the pool!

Phoenix... named for the mythical bird.  Known to most as Nikki.
Nikki loves to fly horizontally and vertically and came to us after our loss of our beloved Kelpie Molly and rekindled our broken hearts. Her rescue was a group effort with the help of the flyball community in San Diego. She was rescued from the pound and driven to Barstow where we picked her up and brought her to her forever home.

Nikki is also a fearless Disc Competitor with 1st place ribbons and trophy’s in UFO and USDDN. She competes at Pro level in Toss’n’Fetch and Open level in Freestyle. She has even earned a frisbee from one of the founders of Wham-O with a personal message “Keep on Flying”

Randsom
had been in flyball when he was younger, but he mostly picked up bad habits. We moved here from Hawaii, and we looked up flyball teams as soon as we got back. Randsom loves flyball, swimming, kayaking, and being told how handsome he is when he's being brushed.

Roo

Picture
Breed: Border Collie
Handler: Casey Wittwer

I got Roo on a cattle ranch in Idaho while fixing fence.  I didn't intend to get a puppy, but the friendly 10 week old border collie named "Ninja" had other plans.

Scooter

Picture
Breed: Jack Russell Terrier
D.O.B.  Sometime in 2001
Handlers: Ed & Connie Barlow

Scooter was adopted by the Barlow family in January 2003 after a young couple had adopted him from Dewey animal shelter on sunday and by thursday were looking to re-home him. He was frightened, fear aggressive and the first thing he did after entering our house was pee on the china hutch. He showed many signs of a very rough previous life. Scars from fly bites in his ears, broken  teeth, great fearfulness and no idea of how to play. He would just cower in his kennel. With lots of love and positive reinforcement, he has come a long way. He can bring down the jumps to 6 inches in U-fli and 8 inches in Nafa. Flyball is not his favorite thing, but he will step in if the team needs him. He is happy to come to practice and just train green dogs. His favorite part of flyball is just hanging out in the crating area going from lap to lap for petting and belly rubs a nd the drive to the tournaments were he gets to cuddle with his girls and watch stuff out the car window.
